Research
The research we produce at the Māia Centre is created by the community, for the community. Some of this work is led by young people, guided by our team, as part of the Brave Research internship.
This research project came from our Rōpū 2 cohort. The report titled, Working Students in South Auckland delves into the multi-faceted experiences of students who balance work alongside their studies, aiming to amplify their voices through storytelling. By closely listening to their narratives, the Brave Research Rōpū 2 cohort examine the reasons behind their choice to work and identify actionable recommendations for schools to better support these students.
Additionally, this research project presents solutions to the challenges identified by young people, informing advocacy groups, policymakers, and government bodies to drive meaningful policy changes.
This research project came from our Rōpū 3 of our Brave Researchers. This research project titled, South Auckland Students': Transition Out of High School documents the experiences of students transitioning out of high school and into life post-secondary school. It was conducted by our third Rōpū of Brave Researchers, where they used talanoa and survey as methods to collect data, so that the transitions our young people take into the workforce are documented.
We hope that by building a broader understanding of these experiences, this research project can help schools, universities, and communities create more meaningful opportunities that inspire aspiration and support young people to thrive.
